Thank you Coach Keimig and Next Steps

Members of the Girls Lacrosse Community -

Congratulations on the culminating accomplishment of the varsity team last weekend and I hope everyone is enjoying the first few days of summer break.

As most of you have heard by now, Coach Keimig announced she has stepped down as varsity head coach to spend more time with Yorktown lacrosse’s youngest and biggest fan! We are thankful she dedicated one last season to our team as a new mom and appreciate everything she has done over the last ten years to help build the team to where it is today. Her commitment to Yorktown, the players and the experience was fueled by a deep passion for the sport of lacrosse and all the opportunities participation in it brings. This was evidenced by her ongoing coaching, playing and officiating. We will miss Coach Keimig’s passion for the sport and overall leadership. Thank you Jenny!

As we look to the future of Yorktown girls lacrosse, I would ask each of you to play an active role in assisting us with recruiting quality coach candidates to apply for the position. Often, our best coaches are referred to us by a player/family who is on the team or our other coaching staff members. The personal connection and the knowledge of what will make one successful as a coach at Yorktown can’t be undervalued.

Please think of any travel or high school coaches you have played for or heard about who would be a quality candidate for our open varsity girls head coach position and encourage them to apply. A job listing is included at the bottom of this news posting and can be shared with interested parties. We will be accepting resumes and email letters of interest until July 25 with a goal of interviewing in early August.

Thanks for your assistance with the recruitment process.

Mike

Varsity Girls Lacrosse Head Coach

The head varsity girls lacrosse coach will provide leadership for the JV and V teams with a focus on making the experience enjoyable, rewarding, challenging and educational. Specifically, the successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the educational component of high school athletics and the ability to use high school lacrosse to help students develop socially and emotionally. Combining enjoyment with skill development is imperative. Given recent success, there is an expectation of off-season opportunities in the fall and winter as well as an understanding of the nuanced similarities and differences between high school and travel lacrosse. Candidates should have prior high school coaching experience (substitutions for high-level travel) and playing experience. The season runs from mid-February to late May with daily practices Monday-Friday (must be available as early as 3:30 pm on some days) and Saturday mornings. The stipend for this position is up to $6676 for the season. Interested parties should contact Michael Krulfeld at michael.krulfeld@apsva.us with a note of interest and resume.
